A New Book — The Message Is In the Story!

Personal, Intimate, and Reality of Addiction

A new book hits the press, and it may hit home with anyone who has experienced the pain and destruction of drug addiction. “My Brother Elvis, The Final Years”, by David Stanley, is a candid depiction of how drug addiction can take down the best in someone, along with their family, and those who love them.

The author reveals the personal, intimate, and cold, hard realities of addiction, in hopes to help as many addicts as possible to seek help, and recover successfully from this progressive, and often fatal disease. Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Prince, Whitney Houston, and so many more, have left us too soon. No family is immune to the pain and suffering of addiction.

We are not winning the war on drugs. It has been estimated that nearly 15 million people suffer from prescription drug addiction in the U.S. alone. It has also been estimated that for every addicted person suffering, there are at least 3–5 people painfully affected by their loved ones’ affliction.

Speaking Up

The long held stigmas, feelings of helplessness and shame, and misunderstandings of this progressive illness, prevents people from understanding the warning signs, from speaking up, telling the truth of what is really happening, and from getting the help needed before it is too late. The author, David Stanley, is boldly breaking the code of silence, and the well-known, “no talk rule” in families suffering from substance abuse and addiction. He wrote the original manuscript 10 years ago, but the imbedded ‘not talk rule’ prevailed until now.

Perhaps none of us were ready to hear how Elvis and his family truly suffered, as it appeared they had it all. David Stanley is doing this now for his family’s healing, and in hopes to offer others a voice they can relate to. The back drop of this story is one of talent, stardom, worldwide fame, and Southern family living, which is all fascinating. However, the tragic ending of Elvis’ life, is one many families of addicts will relate to. Addiction does not care who you are, or who you are related to, it just takes over, destroying everything in its path.

Call to Action to Seek Help Now

In this book, Coherence Associates, Inc. CEO, Sara Gilman has written a call to action, for those who are suffering, to seek help now, sooner than later, before any more tragedies occur. The collateral damages in our families, and in our society, of the consequences of addiction, are costly at every level. There is hope and healing when people speak up, and when effective treatment is found.

Read this book, share it with others…after all who doesn’t like Elvis, and want to know more about him? You may discover that Elvis- the gifted entertainer, and Elvis -the brother, have a wide range of experiences that you, or someone you know, might relate to. Elvis’ talent and music changed the course of history forever. Perhaps the truth of his life, will shift the course of addiction in someone’s life, forever.
